Training Courses - General Notes

The Institute of Computer Graphic Education is an educational association
specialising in training in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and
visualisation software. Established in 1993, the Institute assumed control
of CADvantage's long-established training systems and instructors.

Since its incorporation the Institute and CADvantage have, in combination, provided
vocational training in scheduled and individual classes for over 1000 trainees.

The Institute is authorised by Autodesk Australia as an Autodesk Premier Training
Centre in recognition of our commitment to the provision of quality training.

What is this CAD?
CAD is an acronym either for Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided Drafting.
It encompasses a vast range of computer software that aids in the design, drafting,
modelling, visualisation and manufacturing of products and buildings.

About our Courses:
Our skilled instructors are not only certified by Autodesk Australia but are also
highly experienced AutoCAD users. The Institute is authorised as an Autodesk
Premier Training Centre. Our training courses have been developed here in South
Australia from practical, workplace experience and are recognised by a range of
government, professional, industry-based and educational institutions. If you are
seeking financial support, rebate or status for any of our courses, please discuss
this with us by email or telephone.

What Course to Do
We offer four tiers of courses, each catering to a different skill level:

Introduction: courses for beginners with CAD, for those who are self-taught with
limited experience and for users of other CAD software (Microstation, CADDSMAN, etc.)
Development: courses requiring a thorough and confident knowledge of the principles
discussed at the Introduction level, together with practical experience in the use of
the software.
Professional: courses for users who have done Introduction and Development courses and
have considerable experience in the use of AutoCAD software. These are specialised courses.
Maintenance: courses exploring the features that updated software provides. For experienced
users with at least an Introduction level of skill.

How Long are the Courses?
Course sessions are 3.5 hours each.
Long courses have eight sessions, arranged either over eight weeks or four days.
Intermediate courses have five sessions.
Quick Shot courses have two sessions in a single day.
Long Quick Shot courses have five sessions over two and a half consecutive days.
Fast Track courses have one half-day session.
Short Sharp and Shiny courses are run all-day Thursday and Friday in two consecutive weeks.

How Many People in each Course?
The maximum number in each course is 6 (or, occasionally, 7). The minimum number is 5.
This size allows for individual attention by the lecturer to each trainee.

Hardware and Software
Every trainee is provided with a Pentium-based computer and suitable monitor and mouse,
with the latest version of the software on which the course is based. If you are using
a different version of the software outside of the course, we recommend that your
instruction be based on that version of the software, and can normally provide it.
Practice between training sessions is essential: if you do not have access to a computer
and appropriate software, our training room may be available for unsupervised use for a
nominal hourly rate at times by arrangement.

What to Bring
We encourage you to make your own notes, so a notebook and pencil are uselful.

What you Get
Our courses have been developed from practical, local, workplace experience. Printed notes
are supplied, which are based on the version of the software being used. Exercises to suit
your drafting and design field are provided, where possible. If you do a particular drawing
task, bring an example and you can use that as an exercise. On completion of the course you
will receive a certificate.

How To enrol in a Course:
1. Identify the course from the Course List
2. Confirm from the Timetable that the course is available and that the day & time are OK
3. Note the Code for the course, as well as its name, starting date and time.
4. Complete the Enrolment Form.

Individual & Custom courses
Individual training courses can be arranged if you require intensive training or retraining
due to work-related injuries or re-deployment.
Numerous companies and government departments and authorities have engaged CADvantage to
design and implement customised courses for their employees. Such courses shorten the learning
curve, minimise downtime for employees and maximise the return on hardware and software investment.
